Perhaps a business executive in Red Wing needs extra help around the house following surgery. Maybe a Duluth woman is worried about her elderly parents who are determined to stay in their house despite increased physical difficulties. Maybe there’s a young couple in the Twin Cities who struggles to handle the demands of caring for a child with special needs.
All of them can turn to Accra, a large nonprofit that offers personalized, self-directed home care throughout all of Minnesota’s 87 counties. The organization caters to individuals who need short-term rehabilitation, an in-home nurse or any range of personal care assistance.
Accra, headquartered in Hopkins, has grown tremendously over the past five years. The nonprofit gained several smaller organizations in a 2012 merger, and its annual revenues jumped from $55 million in 2013 to $92 million just two years later.
While many of its competitors struggle to meet changing state requirements in a timely manner, Accra is able to adjust seamlessly, allowing it to serve clients faster and thereby keep up with the increased demands of service the industry has seen as Medicaid expands throughout the state. CEO John Dahm credits part of this growth to the organization’s ability to automate its accounting processes.
“We understand well what type of reports and information the state needs. Meeting these state requirements has grown harder and harder for others, and we believe this is why we have been able to grow so quickly,” Dahm said.
Automating basic accounting tasks made a big difference in helping the organization keep up with its sudden growth. The nonprofit had already implemented Microsoft Dynamics SL in 2007 with the help of Boyer and Associates, and it continues to make adjustments as needed to meet state requirements and keep up with its growing client base.
Accra uses several out-of-the-box Microsoft SL Dynamics solutions, including:
- General Ledger
- Management Reporter
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable
“Accra leverages the highly tailorable Dynamics ERP platform more than most clients to save on labor costs,” Dahm said.
He said the Multi-Company module is particularly useful for Accra in centralizing its accounts payable. Automating its payroll and billing processes has helped reduce costs too. When it came time for the organization to choose a software vendor, Dahm didn’t have to think twice about choosing Boyer. He had worked with the company before and knew he wanted their expertise again.
Dahm said Boyer is able to help nonprofits lower administrative costs by automating accounting processes and making necessary customizations, all while using the well-known Microsoft brand.
He added that as Accra continues to grow, the organization will keep working with Boyer and can upgrade to a similar Microsoft ERP platform if needed. In addition to Dynamics SL, Boyer sells and helps implement Dynamics GP and Dynamics NAV for larger organizations that require more customized services.
“We would recommend Boyer to any nonprofits that are looking to become self-sufficient and thereby keep costs low with a popular and proven Microsoft Dynamics ERP solution,” Dahm said.
