The beginning of every month is an exceptionally busy time for accountants as they try to close the books for month end. Many companies feel good when they close their books in a couple of weeks. For other companies, the process can take five weeks or more. However, we have some companies that are performing their month-end close with Dynamics GP in two or three days. CPA and author Stephen Bragg provides a guide to shrink the process down to just one day in his book Fast Close.Impossible, you say? It’s not if you perform daily bank reconciliations. One of the very time-consuming activities at month-end is reconciling bank accounts. Traditionally, accounting professors taught their students to reconcile bank accounts monthly after … [Read more...] about Close the Books in Minutes with Dynamics GP Reconciliations
Create New Records in NAV RapidStart
Hello and welcome back to our series of blogs on RapidStart in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. For this week’s blog, we’re going to take a short detour to add new items to the Item Card.Adding new records is similar to performing a mass update on existing records. You will follow the same eight steps as before. However, the trick to adding new records is to find an existing record that is very similar to what you want to add. For example, is the item purchased or manufactured? Will the existing and new records share the same posting groups? And so on. You then use the existing record as a template for the new records. To add some new items for our example, let’s use the Cronus database and for the bike, let’s say we want to add in a few new … [Read more...] about Create New Records in NAV RapidStart
Dynamics SL: ‘In’ Function Made Easier
It can be difficult for Dynamics SL users to remember how to use all the different operators available in the Dynamics SL ROI screen.ROI stands for Report Operations Interpreter and is simply the screen you see immediately prior to running any non Management Reporter report in SL. Typically, the screen is used to filter or sort reports at run time. Here is a simple tip in version 2015 that makes doing an "In" function easy:On the "Select" tab of an ROI screen, choose your field. For our example, let’s say the field we want is "Account." Then choose your "Operator of In." Finally, do a PV on the "Value" fields. PV stands for Possible Values and is the same as hitting the F3 function key to display what your choices are. This new … [Read more...] about Dynamics SL: ‘In’ Function Made Easier

Mass Updates in NAV RapidStart Step 6
Hello and welcome back to our blog series on how to use RapidStart Services in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. In this post we are going to work on importing the Excel file into NAV (step 6 of the 10-step process). At this point, please make sure the file you were working on in step 5 is saved. Our work in Excel is complete and we will be working in NAV from this point forward, unless there are data errors to fix in the Excel file. Step 6 Before we go further, I’d like to explain one concept in a little more detail. When we import the Excel file into NAV, at the time of import we are copying the data from Excel into NAV’s configuration package. We are not moving the data directly into the tables yet. When we get to the step to apply the data, … [Read more...] about Mass Updates in NAV RapidStart Step 6
