Is Dynamics SL Cash Manager out of balance?
Here’s a quick fix from the Boyer support desk I have been working support cases for Microsoft Dynamics SL for many years now. I thought I would highlight an issue that comes through support on a regular basis regarding Cash Manager. Specifically, users often have an issue where Cash and the GL balances do not reconcile. Below are two common reasons for this to occur and how to fix the issue. First, one of the easier issues to resolve is to validate that the correct period is being used compared to the bank statement date: Second, the more reoccurring reason for this issue is that the Period to Post does not match one or more specific transaction dates. This could be caused by checks, deposits or journal entries where the transaction … [Read more...] about Is Dynamics SL Cash Manager out of balance?

Moving Customizations from SL to Business Central
One powerful feature in Microsoft Dynamics SL is the ability to create custom screens or modules. Those custom screens become a problem when moving from Dynamics SL to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. If the functionality that necessitated the customizations is still important (likely so) and BC doesn’t have an existing method to replace it (also probably the case), then a BC customization to replace the SL one will be needed. This is an exploration of that process as I learn BC development. First, let’s consider SL customizations, their general characteristics and what is done when building them. These customizations fall into one of several groups: maintenance screens (including setup screens), entry screens, process screens, … [Read more...] about Moving Customizations from SL to Business Central
Dynamics users can get free Business Central licenses
Microsoft has now made it easier for Dynamics customers to get free Dynamics 365 Business Central licenses and migrate their ERP system to the cloud. After a disruption in normal operations this spring, many businesses were already looking for ways to improve their remote work capabilities. To that end, Microsoft announced in June a plan that allows certain Dynamics ERP customers to switch to a cloud solution — for little to no additional licensing cost. Customers who are active on a Microsoft annual maintenance plan (Enhancement, Advantage or Advantage Plus) can renew their plan through the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program and receive free online licenses for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, the company’s Software as a … [Read more...] about Dynamics users can get free Business Central licenses
Dynamics SL is (still) not dead
Ever since Microsoft debuted its shiny new cloud ERP in 2016, the question continues to be asked: What will happen to its on-premise accounting solutions? Is Dynamics SL dead? What about Dynamics GP? And is Dynamics NAV no more than a stepping-stone to the cloud now? Make no mistake. Microsoft is fully invested in the cloud and is heavily promoting its suite of cloud-based business solutions — rightly so. Dynamics 365 offers a plethora of easy-to-use solutions that scale as needed for start-ups and enterprise companies alike. It’s a powerful suite of fully integrated tools perfect for businesses of any size. Microsoft continues to push the messaging that the cloud is the future, but what about the here and now? In case you’re worried … [Read more...] about Dynamics SL is (still) not dead
Dynamics ERP users band together on working apart
With thousands of companies across the U.S. attempting to maintain normal business operations despite quarantine restrictions, Microsoft Dynamics ERP user groups have stepped up their game to help their cohorts navigate new ways of working. Users of Dynamics 365 Business Central already have a fully operational cloud system, but for users of on-premise solutions like Dynamics GP, SL and NAV, the nearly nationwide shelter-in-place orders have placed a strain on business operations. Those who are members of their solution’s user group community have a definite edge. Dynamic Communities, the brainpower behind Microsoft’s ERP user groups, released an entire series of April webinars focused on how to navigate working remotely and the … [Read more...] about Dynamics ERP users band together on working apart
How to set up Dynamics ERP for remote users
Due to the precautions in place as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, many companies throughout the U.S. are instructing their employees to work from home. Some companies are scrambling to accommodate these changes by purchasing laptops and installing the appropriate business applications for their newly remote employees. In office environments that use Microsoft Dynamics GP, NAV or SL, it is crucial to be deployed in a supported configuration. Here are some helpful tips: If GP, SL or NAV is installed locally on the user’s computer, that computer must be directly connected to the company network via Ethernet (wireless connections are not recommended). If the user is working remotely or is otherwise not able to connect directly to the … [Read more...] about How to set up Dynamics ERP for remote users
If it’s not broken, why fix unsupported Dynamics SL?
We get it. Your existing installation of Microsoft Dynamics SL is working well enough, so why would you purposely disrupt your team to “fix” something that’s not even broken? It seems like such a huge waste of time and money. Until the unthinkable happens. Until your system crashes and you’re left scrambling to get back online — and paying exorbitant fees for the emergency fix. Then you might start to rethink your opinion of upgrades. Don’t wait until a catastrophe forces you to upgrade your ERP software. Here are five key areas you could be risking by running an unsupported version of Dynamics SL: Government Incompliance Every time a government agency makes changes to payroll tax tables, 1099 forms or related rules, your ERP system … [Read more...] about If it’s not broken, why fix unsupported Dynamics SL?
