Microsoft Dynamics GP

Have you ever wanted to or needed find a table behind a window or the name of a field on a screen?  Dynamics GP comes with a built in way to assist you with that.  Select the Microsoft Dynamics GP menu, Tools, Resource Descriptions. There are three options on that menu Tables, Fields, Windows. Note: the same menu is available from any window in Dynamics GP. Go to that menu and select Windows, you will see the window below: You can view information about any product that is installed on the machine you are working. At Boyer, we have a number of Independent Software Vendors, especially on the Dynamics GP side of our practice, that we consider tremendous.  Most of the ISV’s we sell are quite honestly reactive.  We have a client that needs the software to do punch out for requisitions and work with a certain vendor’s medical materials management software…so we research, demo, have the ISV demo to the client and like magic…problem solved.  Microsoft has to take some credit here due to their screening process of ISV's but generally the quality is great. When attempting to discuss the value behind upgrading from the Business Essentials (BE) series of modules to the Advanced Management (AM) series of modules, it is often difficult to persuade clients to move up from one to the other. The Business Essentials option after all, offers an incredible array of useful modules such as General Ledger, Payables Management, Receivables Management, Management Reporter for financial statements, bank reconciliation and even the main parts of the distribution series such as sales order processing, inventory and purchase order processing. Have you ever wanted to or needed to display a Sales Order Processing (SOP) report, or any other report created in Smartlist Builder, with a negative amount? In the below example used with the Sales Order Processing module, the user wants return documents to show as negatives and sales to display as positive amounts. It is easy to create a calculated field or set the field options to do that. First, open Smartlist Builder. Second, select the table the column is in Third, and finally highlight that column and click the expansion arrow next to the Display Name. Earlier this month we held our annual Dynamics GP event for our clients at the new Microsoft Technology Center here in Minneapolis, MN-or Edina, MN to you locals. The event surpassed last year's attendance by 14 people. Last year we had 37 attend and this year we had 51. I’m especially pleased with the turnout since last year clients were eager to upgrade to Dynamics 2010 being that the software had been out for year. This year there were only a few service packs and a feature pack to discuss as new-yet more people attended. We were able to show some of the web renderings of popular screens such as Accounts Payable Transactions-which should be coming with Dynamics GP 2013. Each year we hold both a Dynamics GP and Dynamics SL client event, for free, at Microsoft’s offices. Our offices are not large enough to accommodate 60 or so people per session for these events. Clients thoroughly enjoy these sessions as it is a chance for them to discuss configuration options with the many Boyer & Associates Dynamics GP experts. It is also a chance for Dynamics GP users to visit with other clients of ours that have better or different experiences they can learn from. The event is slightly less than a day, there is no airfare or hotel for most, and the ideas they leave with typically give them a sense that we are truly grateful for their business all year. Labor is what we spend most of our money on when it comes to a business or non-profit organization. If you are selling diamonds or have a large distribution center-you could be an exception.  Now, you can buy an additional 22 inch refurbished flat screen monitor for less than $200.  So if you are not already using a second monitor, it may be because you don’t understand how much this can help you be more productive or you travel a lot and don’t spend much time in the office. If an additional monitor can make a person multi-task slightly less or be able to do two things at once more effectively, even a 5% improvement in a person’s productivity makes this investment worthwhile. Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 was a nice improvement over Dynamics GP 10.  The web services offered expanded tremendously and the role tailed menus got even easier to use.  Additional Smartlist built in queries were released and the software got a bit faster as well.
