As Microsoft continues to expand on its Cloud for Nonprofit software solution, Boyer and Associates has been working with nonprofits to automate and simplify common nonprofit processes using the Power Platform. Our latest use case is automating application processes using Power Apps Portals and Dataverse to create a nonprofit client portal.Starting with an ungated portal, a constituent fills out an application for the nonprofit organization and submits it. Upon submission, a Flow emails the constituent with instructions on setting up a profile and credentials for a gated portal. From this point forward, the constituent can work through the portal as part of the application process. This provides a user-friendly experience for communication, … [Read more...] about How to automate your nonprofit’s application process with nonprofit software
How to fix Power Automate trigger errors
Recently, we ran into a few Flows in Power Automate where the trigger was failing whenever a filter criteria was defined in that trigger. The error details stated:“Exception parsing aib_processingstatus eq 914700001 submitted for attribute filterexpression of callback registration. Target entity: aib_documentautomationprocessing. Exception: Microsoft.Crm.CrmInvalidOperationException: Unsupported AttributeType for AttributeTypeCode:FileType at Microsoft.Crm.ObjectModel.CallbackRegistrationTypeMapFactory.Get(AttributeMetadata attributeMetadata, EntityMetadata entityMetadata) When we opened a ticket with Microsoft support, they suggested we remove the filter criteria and instead add a trigger condition. Boost your Power Apps Maker productivity
Dataverse, like many products, has hit its stride of twice-yearly releases. With each release, dubbed “waves,” Microsoft manages to deliver a lot of great new features and functionality to end users. These improvements span across the Power Platform, including Sales, Service and Power Automate, to name a few products. In addition to the product value that Microsoft has delivered to end users, they’ve put a great deal of effort into adding features for makers in the last few years. One of my favorite features that we’ll show today is adding a canvas app directly into a model-driven app. This has been on the roadmap since January and I’ve been itching for it ever since. This feature doesn’t add any new functionality, per se, but it does … [Read more...] about Boost your Power Apps Maker productivity

How to find meaning behind the numbers with Power BI
Since the dawn of accounting software, financial reports have focused on function over form, generally replicating the look and feel of the paper reporting and ledger books that came before them. The critical components have always been the numbers, and the most direct way to confirm numbers is to look at … a table of numbers. But for me, someone who wants to see the numbers but is not a trained accountant and who wants to truly understand what the numbers mean for the business, a table of values only helps to a degree. The raw numbers give me data, but not insights; I can see balances but not business decisions. Turning data into something that helps drive action and decisions is something that Microsoft Power BI is designed … [Read more...] about How to find meaning behind the numbers with Power BI
How Microsoft’s Power Apps Portals can help your nonprofit onboard constituents
A common use case for many nonprofit organizations that we've been seeing lately at Boyer & Associates is the need to onboard or intake clients or constituents with an online process. The typical scenario looks like this:An individual or organization is looking to receive services or funding from the nonprofit, so they need to fill out an application. The nonprofit then reviews the application and perhaps needs to request additional information, such as financial documents, medical records, or other supporting information. There is some internal process for the overall application, including (usually) some back-and-forth communication with the applicant.Once the application is approved, the applicant is informed of their new status and … [Read more...] about How Microsoft’s Power Apps Portals can help your nonprofit onboard constituents
